IL CIARLATANO

by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi

Giovanni Battista Pergolesi – Il Ciarlatano (orig. La contadina astuta)

Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s opera buffa is peppered with jokes, disguises and slapstick elements. Musically, the burlesque character of the piece is supported by Pergolesi’s lively rhythmic motifs. In this work the attention is directed to ordinary people. This production features many elements of street theater and Commedia dell’Arte that inspire audiences with infectious humour and tweaks of irony.
